2016 Annual Terry Fox Walk

Assalamu Alaikum,

Dear Parents,

Once again IIT Academy is pleased to be hosting its annual Terry Fox Walk on Wednesday, September 28th, 2016. Students in Grades K – 8 will continue Terry’s dream of “Working Together to Outrun Cancer.”

Many people today have a connection to someone who has cancer, so the run can serve as a personal dedication to a friend or relative, as well as provide necessary fundraising. Students will have the opportunity to discuss in class the heroic efforts of Terry over the next week and raise much needed funds for cancer research.

There are many ways that students and parents can contribute to this important event. We are asking that students collect donations in the form of a “Toonies for Terry” drive. In recognition of Terry’s courageous battle with cancer and his tireless efforts to raise money for cancer research, we encourage you and your child to participate in this event. Collect and bring in as many toonies as you can. Money raised will be forwarded to The Terry Fox Foundation. Our goal this year is to raise $1,000. Last year, we exceed our goal of $900 and raised $1,000.

On the day of the run, students in JK, SK, and Gr. 1 will walk/run around the school field between 11:30 am -12:00 pm and will have lunch inside the school. Students in Grades 2-8 will walk to Neilson Park between 11:30 am – 1:00 pm. They will walk/run for a few minutes on the running track of the park. They will also have lunch, clean-up the park as a form of community service, and play on the playground. Students should bring their own snack and lunch. Students must wear uniform and comfortable running shoes. Please send extra bottled water for your child.

Kindly send a toonie or more with your child to give to her/his classroom teacher by Tuesday, September 27th, 2016. We are very pleased to be a part of the Terry Fox Event as we encourage our students to develop a sense of volunteerism and goodwill, while celebrating school spirit. If you can volunteer to help walk with the students, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher. Thank you in advance for your support!

Jazak Allahu Khairan,

Yousuf Siddiqui
